Busy Days

I’ve been running from dawn to well past dusk today.

I don’t much like days like this. Days with no “alone” time. Driving my parents and my kids here, there, and elsewhere, and then ending up at the church to babysit a bunch of kids in order to earn money for our missions trip to Bolivia.

And yet, God is so gracious. The day was lovely–if you have to be chauffeuring people around it’s nice to do it on a sunny day in a town full of green trees and song birds. And if you have to babysit, at least it’s nice to sit with children who know how to obey and who love their brothers and sisters. It’s fun to talk to the two-year-olds and the four-year-olds and the ten-year-olds–each with his unique world view.

The kids I babysat were trusting and kind and smart and funny and full of life and laughter. I gained something by watching them play. If the heavens declare the glory of God, how much more do little people attest, simply by being, that we have a wise and wonderful creator?

So, thank God I have to go out and do these things I don’t like doing. If I had my way I’d never leave the house. I’d spend all day reading and writing. I’d be poorer for it, I’m sure.
